International Summit on Human Anatomy

The art and science of anatomy form the foundation of every medical curriculum, but the discipline today extends far beyond the dissection theatre. The International Summit on Human Anatomy — ISHA 2027 — is hosted by the Department of Anatomy at AIIMS Jodhpur from 4 to 7 February 2027. Built around the theme “Exploring Human Structure in the Age of Innovation: From Dissection to Diagnosis,” the summit brings together more than 500 anatomists, clinicians, researchers, and young investigators from across the globe to debate, demonstrate, and shape the future of anatomical science.

Knowledge Sharing

Bridging classical dissection-based anatomy with imaging, AI, and translational diagnostics.

Global Exchange

Building durable academic relationships between Indian and international anatomy departments.

AIIMS Jodhpur

AIIMS Jodhpur is one among the Six new AIIMS established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country and attaining self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education.

AIIMS Jodhpur was the first among the six new AIIMS to start its academic session on 17th September 2012. The vision of the Institute is to establish as a Centre of Excellence in Medical education, training, health care and research imbued with scientific culture, compassion for the sick and commitment to serve the underserved. Teaching, Research, Patient care and Public health are the four pillars on which AIIMS Jodhpur is built.

Among the six new AIIMS established in 2012, AIIMS Jodhpur has the unique distinction of being away from the capital region of the state to provide quality healthcare at affordable cost to underserved population of this region along with developing medical education and research.

AIIMS Jodhpur provides advanced specialty and superspeciality care to the patients like These services were traditionally deficient in this region and there was a strong felt need for quality care in these super-specialties.  AIIMS Jodhpur is bridging the gap as far as the deficiencies in these specialties was present in the area. In other specialties also, AIIMS Jodhpur is providing much needed advancement in patient care. In short span of time, AIIMS Jodhpur has established itself as a Center for advanced Surgery and Complex advanced laparoscopic (minimal invasive) surgeries. It has the unique distinction of starting several firsts in Rajasthan like Robotic Surgery, first state of the art Blood Bank in the state of Rajasthan, advanced pulmonary care and interventions, specialized Pediatric Pulmonology, comprehensive workup and management of Cystic Fibrosis and Complex Neurointerventional procedures to name a few.

Department of Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy at AIIMS Jodhpur aspires to be a centre of excellence for education and research in the anatomical sciences, with a particular emphasis on cell biology and development. It is the academic home of the human body donation programme in Jodhpur — a quiet but profound public-health responsibility that rests with the department.

Anatomy at AIIMS Jodhpur is taught in a clinically integrated manner — gross anatomy, embryology, histology, and neuroscience are presented not as discrete silos but as interlocking foundations relevant to surgery, radiology, pathology, and beyond. Our graduate programme is built on the diverse proficiency of our faculty, our active research laboratories, and a curriculum that keeps pace with the evolving medical sciences.

Education

Clinically integrated teaching across gross anatomy, embryology, histology, and neuroscience.

Research

Active laboratories in cell biology, development, and translational anatomical sciences.

Body Donation Programme

Custodian of the human body donation programme that sustains anatomical teaching and research in Jodhpur.

ISHA 2027 — Dissection to Diagnosis

Four days. One mission. The most consequential gathering of clinical and academic anatomists in South Asia in the year ahead.

The Theme

“Exploring Human Structure in the Age of Innovation: From Dissection to Diagnosis” reflects a defining shift in our discipline. Anatomy is no longer a static foundation for medicine — it is a living, evolving language that bridges the cadaveric lab, radiological imaging, surgical robotics, and AI-driven diagnostics. ISHA 2027 is built around that bridge.

The Audience

Over 500 distinguished anatomists, clinicians, surgeons, radiologists, embryologists, neuroscientists, postgraduate students, and early-career researchers — drawn from institutions of state, national, and international repute. ISHA 2027 is curated as a platform for both established voices and emerging investigators.

The Programme

A pre-conference workshop day on 4 February — Semen Analysis for Andrology and Bone Retrieval — followed by three days of plenaries, symposia, free papers, and poster sessions from 5 to 7 February. Six scientific tracks span gross and clinical anatomy, embryology, neuroanatomy, histology, anatomy in the AI era, and anatomy education and body donation.

The Setting

Jodhpur — the Blue City of Rajasthan — offers a setting unlike any other Indian conference destination. A UNESCO-listed Mehrangarh Fort, the palaces of the Marwar legacy, indigo lanes, and the warm hospitality for which India is known. The science happens at AIIMS; the experience extends well beyond it.
